a better teapot

i had so much fun making this beautiful little teapot while on staycation in Seattle in August. making it while on PTO made me so much more patient with the process - waiting until the pieces were the right amount of dry to trim, drying the handle in the sun so it would have the strength to hold while i assembled the piece.

i also really enjoy the notches cut into the foot ring, the shape of the knob, the fit of the lid, the size and angle of the spout, and the way the asymmetry of the handle allows for easier pouring. 1 i think there’s a name for these types of notches but I haven’t been able to find it. the closest I’ve come is kirikodai in Japanese, but that seems to be a single, asymmetric notch. for the teacups, i really enjoy the slight flare of the rim of the tea cups and the way the light colored dune glaze lets you appreciate the color of the tea for clear teas.

i think it’s taken the top spot for favorite teapot in my house at the minute.

as a secondary side quest, i also had so much fun making gifs of our wedding websites that i enlisted Rohit’s help making a gif of the pour on this teapot as well. it involved two filming locations, moving a side table, and multiple takes to get the light right. he’s so lovely and patient in encouraging my whims.
