blue corduroy coat for Rohit

this was my second big sewing project on my new machine after taking an incredible class on making overalls with Emelia at Summit Selvage. Rohit and I picked out this light blue corduroy fabric together and snagged some really incredible vintage mother of pearl buttons from Seattle ReCreative. this is the Ilford Jacket pattern from Friday Pattery Company. I found the sew along tutorials on YouTube incredibly helpful as a new sewist. added lots of pockets, inside, outside, and on the back.

lessons learned: this was my first time using bias tape and it took me a bit to get the hang of it. i ended up going back over spots i had missed in the first pass.

light canvas with denim pockets for me

same pattern, faster the second time! I like the light colored canvas and used two types of leftover denim for the pockets for a bit of contrast.

lessons learned: pre-wash your cotton fabric if you don’t want it to shrink! i was so excited to start working on this that I didn’t prewash my fabric, and it shrunk a little after washing.
