digital invites

I must immediately admit the category violation that this isn’t technically tactile, but I want to catalog these websites as a fun creative project. Rohit and I decided to make websites as invites instead of paper invitations, both for convenience and as a fun art project to work on together. We’ve both enjoyed building a series of personal websites over the years.

We started looking at designs for wedding invites and pulling from ideas that resonated with us. We liked the interrupted border and red of these invites, and translated that into the arch detail on the family invite.

We found these super cool vintage social cards and loved the fonts, clarity, and organization.

We loved these hand drawn details for their specificity and texture.

I really love good type face design, and after some exploring, fell in love with Dreamboat and Bang! from Taylor Penton. Dreamboat captured the classic vibe were were looking for, remniscient of the old school social cards and picking up the midcentury vibes of our venue, where Bang! had the chaos, joy, and whimsy we wanted to bring to the party with our friends.

All the details were so fun. For colors, we incorporated a bright red auspicious in Hindu weddings (), a rich dark brown (), and a cream white (), with a simple white () and black () for the friend party. We asked my younger sister to trace/draw a photo of us from the engagement ceremony we did with Rohit’s grandfather. My mom’s side has a family tradition of linking hands and saying “well, well, well, here we are again” to mark occasions, so we added that to our seating chart.

Rohit put in a surprising amount of work getting all the infrastructure set up and making sure the interrupted arch rescaled well for different browser widths, which I massively appreciated. I also designed matching favicons, and the friend version carries into the favicon for this website.

We really enjoyed getting fun domains - charlotteandrohit.wedding and charlotteandrohit.party (plus rohitandcharlotte.party for the local friends). Both websites also have clean mobile views.
